Only first to Time Warner Wisconsin Division

According to several published reports, HBO will be introducing a new broadband Internet service called “HBO on Broadband” that is going to be tested in conjunction with Time Warner’s Roadrunner Cable modem Internet service. The service, which will be tested in Time Warner’s Wisconsin Division first, will distribute digital movies and shows from HBO to Roadrunner subscribers.

Of course, as with everything, there is a catch; and the catch here is that you have to be an HBO/HBO on Demand subscriber in order to gain access to the HBO on Broadband service. The good news is if you are a subscriber to HBO and  HBO on Demand and you also subscribe to Roadrunner, you will get the HBO on Broadband service for no additional charge.

According to reports, the HBO on Broadband service will provide over 600 titles at no charge. You will be able to download the movies within five to ten minutes after the broadcast ends. You will also get access to a live feed of HBO East at no charge.

According to reports, the HBO content will be copy protected and you will have to use HBO’s proprietary player to play it. Accounts will be available for up to five users/computers in a household, which is nice, but only 32-bit versions of Windows will be supported for the service.
