Scientists stick LEDs into contact lenses
Bionic vision
University of Washington scientists have built a prototype contact lens which they claim could lead to bionic vision.
The lens incorporates an electronic circuit and LED lights and has been worn by rabbits for 20 minutes with no adverse effects. So far, they have not wired it up yet, but they believe it will be possible to create a surface for a computer screen on your own eyeballs.
It cannot correct vision defects, but it could be used to create visual aids in the future. The prototype is years away from a final product, which will be much more complicated.
