Charter is sorry for this event

Charter Communications
has released information that during a routine maintenance cycle, Charter erroneously deleted active E-mail accounts along with other accounts. As many as 14,000 users could be affected, according to Charter. The cable modem Internet provider claims that they have no way to recover the deleted accounts, as the reason that this happened was due to a software error.

Charter is a cable provider who provides Cable Modem High Speed Internet Access in 29 states across the U.S. and has over 2.6 million subscribers. Charter says that they are going to give a $50 credit to all customers affected by this error, and that they have put safeguards in place to prevent this from happening again.

Still, many customers are upset about losing their E-mail accounts and have started to publicly wonder out loud why Charter didn’t have adequate backups in places that the accounts and E-mail could be restored from.
