Performance at the cost of electricity


Network World
is concerned that while the next-generation 802.11n systems are better performers they suck up more power.

Apparently, vendors are claiming that 802.11n will considerably improve WLAN performance and that enterprise customers will not have to touch their power infrastructures.

After sniffing around various vendors it seems that many of the claims defy the laws of physics and it would appear that most have made trade-offs in a bid to keep power levels the same. Some of these tricks include turning off some functionality in the hope the user will not notice.
