Sony has released a firmware update for PSP. Version 3.90 brings PSP users some new features, including Skype under Network tab. And there you have it, Skype has finally reached the PSP, at least the 2000 series.

Besides the Skype feature, the new 3.90 firmware update brings expanded support for Playstation Network titles and a teaser for Go!Messenger application (Go!Messenger update is for UK only). Nothing more, nothing less, apparently Skype was the prime reason for this update. According to RegHardware, Go!Messenger will be available sometime in February, and it is developed as part of a Sony partnership with British Telecom, so those of you that like to IM and do video-chat will have to wait a bit.

Skype on PSP does require you to have a PSP headset with remote control, and you can check out the official Skype website for additional info on the free and paid services.
