Bloke tries to hire hitman on Facebook

by on15 February 2011

Looking at up to 22 years in prison
Although Facebook is credited with bringing about democratic changes in Northern Africa and helping people stay in touch among other things, it also serves as a testament to the sheer stupidity of some teens who get themselves nicked thanks to their Facebook ramblings.

Thanks to Facebook 19-year-old Corey C. Adams of Pennsylvania finds himself in hot water over a rather daft notice posted on the social network. Adams apparently offered $500 (yes, five hundred) to anyone who would kill a 20-year-old woman who accused him of rape last June.

Of course, it did not take long before the threat was reported and Adams found himself talking to a West Chester Police detective posing as a hitman. You can probably guess where it all went from here.

Upon realizing that raping women and then soliciting hitmen to kill them after the fact was really not a very nice thing to do and that it could land him in prison for the rest of his life, the young sociopath entered a plea agreement with the local prosecutor's office. This probably qualifies as the only smart thing he ever did in his life, as he will serve just 11 to 22 years in prison rather than 35 to 70, although he clearly deserves the latter sentence.
