Ubuntu 7.10 with DVD playback

Dell has finally started to offer the XPS M1330 "packed with Linux" offer in the U.S. This is the first XPS that has Linux in the States. It comes with Ubuntu 7.10, which has DVD playback support.

Dell's Linux XPS has brought features such as an LED-lit display and a slot-loading DVD burner, which features weren't previously available. It looks as if Europe might be a better region for this kind of thing. So, unlike the European version, the U.S. version of Linux packed XPS M1330 lacks a 64GB SSD option, 320GB HDD, and other color options, so you are stuck with black XPS.

The limited amount of features offered brings the price down, so the stock model with 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB of memory, 120GB HDD and GMA X3100 graphics chip will cost you US$945. The system can be upgraded all the way up to 2.2GHz, 4GB of memory and 200GB of normal spinning hard drive.

You can find the Linux -packed XPS M1330 for the U.S. here.
