Targeting Microsoft

Google
wants to add more e-mail security and storage products for businesses.

The move brings it into more direct conflict with Microsoft just as the competition between the two rivals heats up in Internet search and advertising. The new tools use technology that Google bought when it aquired e-mail specialist Postini for $625 million. Basically, it removes junk mail and potential viruses. It also checks for leaks of confidential information sent through e-mail.

The latest features are compatible with Microsoft Exchange as well as Lotus Notes and Novell Groupwise. The products will cost between $3 per user to $25 per user, depending on how much protection and data retention a customer wants.
