PC no longer the preferred for FPS titles

Epic’s Mark Rein has always had his pulse on the PC gaming industry and in a recent interview with Keith Stuart he suggests that console systems are causing gamers to move away from using the PC and the primary platform to play first person shooter titles on.

In the past most of the popular FPS titles were played on the PC, but times are changing and users seem to be embracing consoles at the platform of choice to play FPS titles on. Evidence of this comes from the popularity of both Gears of War for the Xbox 360 and Unreal Tournament III for the PlayStation 3.

Unreal Tournament III, which was released for the PC, has not had the impact of driving players back to their PCs to play this new title. Much of the reason might have to do with the ability to translate almost everything from Unreal Tournament III on the PC to the PlayStation 3 version of the title.

Rein still seems to be a fan of the PC, but he does not suggest that Epic will be moving away from the development of PC titles. He does indicate that Epic is paying attention to the market and they are committed to responding to what the consumer wants.
