We already hinted about it

We already reported yesterday that Microsoft had dropped the price of the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on drive to US$129, but speculation is already ripe that as we suggested yesterday, another price drop could come very quickly.

According to various unconfirmed rumors that we are hearing and that are spreading around the net, US$79 could be the new price within weeks. It seems that some are saying that Amazon was already testing the US$79 price out by offering it as a special price the other day and blowing the drives out at this unbelievable fire sale price.

While we have not been able to confirm that a new lower price is in the works, it does seem logical that Microsoft will want to unload all of the inventory that it has quickly before the lack of new movie titles catches up with the HD DVD enthusiasts.

Despite all of the negative Email that we have been getting suggesting that our coverage is favoring Blu-ray lately, we still have a deep respect for the HD DVD format and we are sad to see it going out this way. HD DVD does have many advantages over Blu-ray in numerous areas.

What is really unbelievable is the way that the entire format war has polarized so many users, no matter which camp you support. Rest assured that we will continue to give both sides coverage and keep you posted on each move as they happen.
