iTunes hits 500,000 approved apps

There probably is an app for that
As of Tuesday, Apple’s iTunes store has approved more than half a million apps.

The milestone was reached in a mere 34 months, but this does not mean that 500,000 apps are available for download. Some of them were yanked, some were replaced and the actual figure of downloadable apps is now estimated at about 400,000.

However, although Apple’s iOS platform is still in the lead, Android is also doing quite well. Android Market currently carries more than 350,000 apps, which is a very impressive result considering Apple’s lead in the market.

As for Windows Phone 7, the situation is quite different, as it doesn’t even offer one tenth of the apps available for Android and iOS toys.
