Research in Motion Ltd. (RIM) has acknowledged that it left North American users without access to their Blackberry e-mail service and data on Monday, a huge outage that lasted for approximately 3 hours. However, RIM claims that no user messages were lost during the outage.
While RIM apologized to users for the outage, RIM said its initial investigation into the outages pointed to problems with the Blackberry service infrastructure’s internal data routing system, which had been recently upgraded to increase overall capacity. The outage seemed to mirror a system outage by RIM last April.
