Apple Inc. has announced that it is immediately reducing the price of its low-end iPod Shuffle by $30 from its previous retail price of US$79 to just $49. This model of the iPod Shuffle is screenless, weighs just .5 ounces, and holds 1GB of flash memory.

Apple also announced that it will launch a new 2GB version of the iPod Shuffle before the end of February, which will retail for US$69 and will hold about 480 songs.
