Amazon tablet coming next week

by on26 September 2011

Competitive pricing expected
Amazon is planning to launch its highly anticipated tablet next Wednesday at an event in New York. According to Reuters, analysts are upbeat about the launch and they expect aggressive pricing.

Unlike most Android tablet vendors, Amazon already has quite an impressive media library, a lot of traction with its Kindle e-book readers and well developed logistics. In terms of product placement, the tablet will end up a lot cheaper than the iPad, but also pricier than the Kindle. Analysts expect a $250 price tag, which sounds fair for a 7-inch tablet.

Analysts expect affordable pricing on Amazon’s part and believe the new tablet could be a game changer. Some analysts believe Amazon could shift as many as three million units by the end of the year and the new tablet could also compete against Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color.

At this point it is rather difficult to say how Amazon’s tab will measure up to the rest of the Android crowd, but the price seems pretty tempting and judging by the success of the Kindle, it has a pretty good chance of making its mark on the tablet market. Then again, so did HP and RIM.
