Microsoft Studios has not been in the buying mood as of late, but things changed yesterday when they announced that they had acquired Austin, Texas developer Twisted Pixel. The developers at Twisted Pixel will continue to develop titles for the Xbox 360 platform under the Twisted Pixel brand as part of Microsoft Studios.

Twisted Pixel is best known for their Xbox Live Arcade title Splosion Man, and now for their brand new Kinect title called Gunstringer. Both titles have received tons of praise and are among the favorites of Xbox 360 players everywhere.

Becoming part of Microsoft Studios will allow Twisted Pixel to take advantage of the vast resources of Microsoft to develop bigger and more robust titles in the future. Our take is that the deal is good for fans of Twisted Pixel titles, as Microsoft’s funding should lead to bigger Twisted Pixel titles that will become regular release titles for the Xbox 360 platform.
