Intel new 500 series SSD still not out

by on25 November 2011

Cherryville planned for Q4 2011

Cherryville is not a town down the road from Smallville, it is rather interesting codename for Intel’s latest generation of 500 series SSD’s.

Cherryville is supposed to replace the 510-series of SSD drives based on 34nm Multi Level Cache drives that come in 120GB and 250GB sizes. Cherryville is 25nm MLC-based drive, again in 2.5-inch form factor like most SSDs and it features support for SATA 6Gb/s. It will come with a 5x0 brand name, we can speculate it will be Intel 520 series, but what we can confirm that it comes in 60GB, 120GB, 180GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities.

The probably won’t be cheap as Intel SSD drives never are, but at least they should be fast. The launch date is Q4 2011 but since we are living this quarter right now, there is a big chance to see them officially launched very soon. We will keep our eyes peeled.
