Fastest in its class

Fujitsu has just announced its brand new shiny MHZ2 BJ-series of 7,200RPM 2.5-inch hard disk drive and it will be available with up to 320GB of storage space. This might not be the largest 2.5-inch, nor the first 7,20RPM drive in its class, but it's the first 320GB drive to hit this kind of speed.

The MHZ2 BJ-series measures 9.5mm tall, which means that you could cram one of these drives into some fairly thin notebooks in contrast to the fairly chunky 500GB drives which stand 12.5mm tall. The drives come with SATA 3.0Gb/s interface and draw 2.3W of power during read and write operations, and as little as 0.8W at idle.

The new drives will be available sometime in June, although no pricing was announced. The entire family will consist of 80, 120, 160, 250 and 320GB drives, all featuring a 16MB cache, 10.5ms read seek time and 12.5ms write seek time.
