Nvidia cuts Q4 outlook, blames HDD shortage

Tegra sales slow down as well

Nvidia has cut its Q4 revenue projection on Tuesday, blaming the slowdown on hard-drive shortages and the resulting drop in PC demand.

Nvidia now expects to report about $950 million revenue, down from its previous prediction of $1.066 billion. The market didn’t take kindly to the announcement and Nvidia shed 5.5% in late trading on Tuesday, closing at $14.1.

Nvidia apparently underestimated the effect of the Thailand disaster last year, but interestingly its Tegra business also declined. The company launched its third generation Tegra chip late last year, but it seems customers might have cut Tegra 2 orders in anticipation of the new chip.
