Comes in May or June

In spite of previous reports and Asus's rumor smashing that there will be no touchscreen Eee PC after all, it looks that Asus has somehow changed its tune and that the 2nd gen Eee PC will actually have a touchscreen.

According to the article over at Digitimes, Asus's President of sales, Kevin Lin, has announced that the upcoming 8.9-inch Eee PC will feature a  touchscreen. Lin has also hinted that it may also include GPS support. This new Eee PC is expected to begin shipping sometime in May or June, and it should retail at $500.

The 8.9-inch 2nd gen Eee PC will use Intel's low-cost notebook platform and memory will be upgraded from 512MB to 1GB. The memory isn't the only thing moving up since SSD capacity will apparently be pushed from 4-8 to 8-12GB. At the same time Asus is going to start shipping its E-DT, or desktop Eee PC, which should be priced at US$199.
