Three journalists whose private phone records were stolen by investigators working for HP have sued the company for invasion of privacy.

The law-suit is a result of the pre-texting scandal where HP directors used private investigators to find out which board members were talking to the media.

The dispute revolves around how the journalists, Dawn Kawamoto, Stephen Shankland and Tom Krazit, might have had their careers damaged by having their phone records examined.  It is rare for journalists to sue anyone.

The three still work for Cnet but are not allowed to cover the HP round.

Most of the other reporters who were spied on by HP are not taking any action.
