Updated: Slow CPU holds it back

Computer Shopper has got their hands on HP's upcoming 2133 Mini-Note and has reviewed it before it's even been officially announced. However, it looks like the VIA C7-M ULV processor is holding it back from its full potential and the price tag is too high.

Although they like the design and the 8.9-inch display with its 1,280x768 resolution, the top of the range US$749 model they tested with a 1.6GHz processor combined with Windows Vista Business seems to be a bad mix, as the Mini-Note only scores 832 points in PCMark 05. This is with 2GB of system RAM and a 120GB, 5,400RPM hard drive.

Other features included with the top of the range model are 802.11a/b/g WiFi, Bluetooth and a six-cell battery which managed 3h and 20 minutes in their general battery test and 3h of movie watching. The basic US$599 model comes with a 1GHz CPU, 512MB or RAM and a 4GB SSD drive with SuSE Linux on it and a three-cell battery. It also lacks Bluetooth and 802.11a support.

No matter how much we like the design of the Mini-Note and some of its features, it is too expensive for what you get and we'd wait for VIA's mobile version of the Isaiah/CN processor to appear in it before we'd consider spending our hard earned cash on it.
