Love affair with Open Source over

Sun's
love affair with open sourcing seems to be over, as the company has announced that MySQL will be offering features that will not be available to Open Source developers.

At the MySQL Partner meeting as part of the MySQL Conference and Expo it was announced that MySQL will start offering features only in MySQL Enterprise, which is closed source. So far the company has been developing features in both MySQL Community and MySQL Enterprise, but now it appears that development will only occur and be tested in MySQL Enterprise.

According to the JCOLE blog that will mean that since the user base for MySQL Enterprise is much smaller than for MySQL Community, critical features will be tested by only a few of their customers. The rest will be getting untested code.
