Windows 7 goes over 630 million

Microsoft has now officially confirmed that Windows 8 will be available by the end of October. The confimation came directly from Microsoft's Tami Reller, Windows Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer at Microsoft and was closely followed by a blog post over at Microsoft Windows blog.

Microsoft held its annual Worldwide Partner Conference in Canada on Monday and Reller confimed that Windows 8 is on track to Release to Manufacturing (RTM) during first week of August and that retail versions of upgrades and clean installs of both Windows 8 and Windows RT will hit retail by the end of October.

There has been a brief mention that Windows 8 will be available in 109 languages across 231 markets worldwide. Reller also confirmed that RTM is when Microsoft will turn on the commerce platform so that developers will start to earn money for their apps.

In addition to Windows 8 announcements, Microsoft was keen to announce a new milestone for Windows 7 OS and that more than 630 million Windows 7 licenses have been sold to date.
