RIM tries to sell corporate jet

Aims to save $1 billion

Struggling smartphone maker RIM is apparently selling one of its two corporate jets in an effort to save as much as $1 billion in operating costs.

RIM hopes it can get $6 to $7 million for its Dassault Aviation F50EX 9-seater, so it won’t go a long way toward saving $1 billion, but every little helps. The second jet, a 14-seat Dassault F900EX is not for sale, at least not yet.

RIM told Bloomberg that it is looking into ways of reducing aircraft and travel costs. RIM CEO Thorsten Heins announced plans to save $1 billion this fiscal year, cutting thousands of jobs in the process.

So, if you are in the market for a second-hand corporate jet, give RIM a call. The F50EX has a range of over 3,500 nautical miles and it’s perfectly suited for the ever popular Medellin to Miami route.
