Acer is the first large PC manufacturer to announce a wide support for WiMAX, as the company Chairman JT Wang has gone on record saying that Acer will launch WiMAX enabled notebooks in June or July, according to Digitimes.

As the notebooks will be based on Intel's Montevina mobile platform which will be announced at Computex in June, it's likely that we'll see the first WiMAX models on display at the show.

It's also likely that these notebooks will use Intel's EchoPeak WiMAX/WiFi cards and that the first models will be exclusively for the Taiwanese market. The reason for this is because the Taiwanese government has signed a deal with Intel to build an island-wide WiMAX network in partership with several local service providers.

No other specifications or details about the notebooks were announced, but we'll make sure to check out Acer's booth during Computex to find out more details on the WiMAX models.
