To compete with Nintendo

Microsoft
has announced that it is cutting prices on the Xbox 360 by up to 20 percent in Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore regions.

The price reductions are seen as an effort to expand the Xbox 360 audience for the popular Xbox game console. The pricing on the Xbox 360 Premium model with a 20GB hard drive has reportedly been reduced almost 20 percent in Singapore, 17 percent in Taiwan, about 11 percent in Hong Kong and by 5 percent in South Korea.

Xbox has run into sharp competition from Nintendo’s Wii console, which is selling almost as fast as it appears on retail shelves.  Sony’s PlayStation 3 is also a competitor.

Microsoft has also cut prices on the Xbox 360 in south European countries by a reported 28 percent to help stimulate sales of the Xbox 360 console.
