Will also re-release previous releases

The mystery surrounding Paramount Home Entertainment’s (PHE) upcoming plans were finally unveiled in a press release. It will come as no surprise that some of the titles that PHE previously released on Blu-ray should once again be available, and previously released HD DVD exclusive titles will be released on Blu-ray, as well, in the upcoming months.

PHE also let it be known that going forward that their plan is to release their Blu-ray titles on BD-50 dual layer discs with Dolby TrueHD audio as a standard feature on new titles as they are authored. Blu-ray titles that PHE released prior to their move to becoming HD DVD exclusive will again start to grace retailer inventories starting on May 20th.

The first ones will be Aeon Flux, Babel, Black Snake Moan, Coming to America, Dreamgirls, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Sleepy Hollow, The Untouchables, Trading Places, We Were Soldiers and World Trade Center. All of these titles were previously available on HD DVD, as well.

In addition, Blades of Glory which was pulled from Blu-ray release at the last minute and made a debt as a HD DVD exclusive will also make its way to Blu-ray on May 20th. Speaking of PHE, HD DVD releases that will be making their way to Blu-ray will also include Bee Movie and Face/Off Special Edition. While Face/Off Special Edition was released on HD DVD, the Bee Movie was announced for HD DVD, but was pulled prior to release after Toshiba killed HD DVD.

As for new titles for Blu-ray, PHE announced that Cloverfield along with There Will Be Blood will hit Blu-ray on June 3rd. Next up will be The Spider wick Chronicles, which will arrive on June 24th. This will be followed by No Country for Old Men in August, with a date to be determined at a later time.

PHE did not make any announcement regarding Top Gun or the Jack Ryan Collection. Top Gun was released on HD DVD, but was at one point announced for Blu-ray. The Jack Ryan Collection, on the other hand, was announced for Blu-ray, and then canceled. Then it was announced for HD DVD and canceled. We suspect that it will be again announced for Blu-ray and released along with Top Gun at some point in the near future.

With the announcements of PHE release strategy for Blu-ray, it does appear that they will have a good deal of Blu-ray titles on the shelf this summer.
