To feature 500 MHz CPU and 256MB DDR2

QNAP released word in advance of Computex that it will be launching the second generation of the highly successful TS-109 Pro and TS-209 Pro NAS devices. The new versions will be known as the TS-109 Pro II Turbo NAS and the TS-209 Pro II Turbo NAS.

The biggest highlight of the second generation of the TS-109 Pro II and the TS-209 Pro II is the upgraded processor and memory over the previous version. The second generation versions will adopt the 500 MHz Marvell CPU and double the memory to 256MB of DDR 2.

Beyond the hardware upgrades, the TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II will feature an updated BitTorrent application that is able to handle the drawbacks that are normally associated with embedded systems. The TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II uses the high speed DHT mode with the TCP/UDP tracker protocols to enhance performance.

In addition, the TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II will offer optional firmware that supports encrypted BitTorrent support for users that are suffering from ISP traffic shaping. Of course, users will be able to manage the TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II with the web based QGet management software.

As with previous versions of the TS-109 Pro/TS-209 Pro, it will support media delivery and sharing with DLNA, NFS, and SMB support. The upgraded version of TwonkyMedia allows users to stream directly from the TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II across their network to other PCs, as well as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

The TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II has not forgotten about business users with a rich selection of abilities to support the use of the product in a variety of business environments. With enterprise level logging and reporting with S.M.A.R.T hard drive analysis, owners have the ability to monitor both the performance and health of the TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II with Email notifications.

The TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II will continue to offer enterprise level features including Microsoft Active Directory support, as well as NAS to NAS LAN/WAN replication. The replication options using the TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II can be used for a variety of scheduled seamless software and file distribution across LAN/WAN networks.

The TS-109 Pro II/TS-209 Pro II will start shipping shortly and will carry a suggested retail price of US$329 and US$429, respectively.
