BT profits are up 7 per cent

BT is reporting that despite a tough year its profits are up more than 7 per cent.

However the company has been forced to revise its outlook for full-year revenues owing to a “triple whammy of recession, regulation and rain. The company said that things would be better in the second half of the year.

Pre-tax profit at the UK telecoms group rose seven per cent to £608million in the second quarter owing to the effects of further cost-cutting BT announced its plans to roll out superfast fibre broadband nationwide had been sped up and that revenues slid nine per cent to £4.5billion.

A UK Court of Appeal decision on call termination charges in the second quarter walloped revenues at BT Wholesale, while the heavy rains in the UK this year meant its Openreach arm handled more repair.
