That has gotta hurt

Hackers have taken down the Website of Zimbabwe's President, Robert Mugabe’s, tame newspaper.

The site for the state-owned Herald newspaper has been down for days. This means that it has been unable to act as the official mouthpiece of Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF party. It has been churning out bile against the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), which won the country's disputed March 29th elections.

The hack was carried out by someone calling himself "r4b00f". Headlines on the site were replaced by the word Gukurahundi, referring to a campaign of atrocities the government has been accused of committing after independence.

Herald IT Manager, Thomson Ndovi, told Reuters that the site had been hacked and it was still waiting for its ISPs to fix the problem. Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai said over the weekend that he would contest a run-off Presidential vote against Mugabe, even though he believes he won outright in the first round and accuses the ruling ZANU-PF of vote-rigging.
