HTC is denying that Apple wanted huge amounts of dosh to end its thermonuclear war against the company. The company surrendered this week and signed a licensing agreement with Jobs' Mob.

But the deal was secret and HTC is having to deny rumours that it had to pay Apple an arm and leg. Rumours suggested that HTC will pay Apple $6 to $8 per Android phone as part of the patent settlement. However chief executive Peter Chou said it was an outrageous estimate and called it "baseless".

The reason Apple wanted Chou to keep quiet about it is that its still trying to screw cash out of Samsung.  If it is revealed that it let HTC off with less than two or three dollars a phone, then damages from Samsung will be slashed by a court.
