UK launch of Wii U successful sellout

by on04 December 2012

An estimated 40,000 units sold in UK

As is becoming the norm for the launch of the Wii U, again it comes as no surprise that the launch in the UK is being called a success. How much of a success, you might ask? Well, it is a sellout. An estimated 40,000 units were sold in the UK during the first 48 hours of release, sources tell MCV.

UK retail sources let the cat out of the bag by telling that local retailers have sold out of their inventories, but a check online would appear that Amazon still has inventory of the Wii U to sell. Sources tell us that additional inventory is being dispatched to the UK in time for the holidays, but we suspect that there will still not be enough of the units to go around in the UK.

Reports from the UK are indicating that the software attach rate for the Wii U is better than 2:1, and some are suggesting that it could be even closer to 3:1, according to our sources. If accurate, the attach rate numbers will prove to be an exciting spot of news for Nintendo as well as 3rd party developers.
