Ouya apology cost the company

by on07 August 2013

Not just giving games away for free

In the recent Email that Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman sent to Ouya’s Kickstarter backers apologizing for all of the things that went wrong and offering to credit $13.37 to those backers is being funded by Ouya directly.

That’s right, it is coming directly out of Ouya’s pockets and the $13.37 credits it is giving its Kickstarter backers it being used to buy games. That’s right, they are not giving the games away from free, but instead developers are getting paid for the titles that the backers are buying with their credits.

According to what we have been able to find out, this entire act of good will towards its customers is going to cost Ouya around a million dollars by the time it is all said and done. Of course even though developers are getting paid, Ouya will made money back as part of its revenue sharing agreement for distribution in the store. It should help Ouya’s sales numbers and maybe help Ouya sales start to get on track a little bit.
