Newell says more info next week

While speaking at LinuxCon in New Orleans, Gabe Newell from Valve confirmed that the Steambox or the Linux gaming PC that they have been developing for the living room isn’t dead. In fact Valve is planning to reveal more specific information on it next week.

In his presentation, Newell described Linux as the future of gaming and something that Valve realized a number of years ago. Since they have Steam for Linux and the big picture mode, now all they need as a platform, which Valve has been working on for some time.

According to what we have been able to put together, Valve has a prototype that was finished in July, but they have been tinkering with the controller and trying to decide if they want to consider adding some sensors to determine a player’s body state.

We will have to wait till next week and see what comes out of this, but it could really be something this time around.
