Microsoft pushing Nokia to kill RT tablet

by on18 September 2013

Asha phones, too

The ink has barely dried on the Microsoft – Nokia deal and there is already some trouble in paradise. According to Mobile Review, Redmond is pressuring Nokia to drop plans for a tablet and kill off half of its Asha phone line-up.

Nokia’s Windows RT tablet, codenamed Sirius, was leaked last week and it practically looks like a polished design ready for production. For one reason or another, Microsoft wants it dead.

Mobile Review editor Eldar Murtazin tweeted that Redmond feels it doesn’t need “similar products” from Nokia, i.e. it doesn’t want a Nokia tablet competing with the new Surface RT.

As for Asha phones, Murtazin says Microsoft wants to cull half of them, presumably to make more room for Windows handsets.
