2.5-inch of an enterprise class

Western Digital announced a new version of its 10,000RPM VelociRaptor SATA hard drive. Unlike the previously announced 2.5-inch hard drive packed in a desktop friendly 3.5-inch cooling enclosure, we are now looking at a 300GB 2.5-inch enterprise class SATA hard drive spinning at the same 10,000RPM.

The new VelociRaptor is built for business applications and comes with enterprise class mechanics and an MTBF of 1.4 million hours. Other noted specs are basically the same as on the desktop version but without the IcePack, which turns it to a 3.5-inch hard drive.

The new 300GB VelociRaptor should be available soon. The price is still unknown, but we expect it to sell at around US $300.
