Xbox One sales surge on price drop

In hindsight it should have been cheaper all along

Microsoft has managed to flog more than 1.1 million Xbox consoles and the numbers are likely to get higher after a recent price drop.

A week ago Microsoft said it had seen Xbox One sales double ever since they reduced its price, but they refused to say how many they sold and it was not enough to beat Sony for the month of June in the US market. However in Redmond’s latest earnings for the fourth quarter fiscal year 2014 and based on the numbers they provided in the report, it seems that Microsoft had managed to ship 1.1 million Xbox consoles in Q4 2014. This figure was a combination of both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One consoles, and since Microsoft did not break down the numbers, we can’t be sure as to the exact figures of each console.

What it did say is that Redmond flogged 10 per cent more units than this quarter compared to the same period last year. Microsoft once announced that they had shipped 5 million Xbox One consoles to retailers, shipping figures do not necessarily translate into sales figures. This is compared to Sony who has managed to sell over 7 million PlayStation 4 consoles to date.

While Sony is clearly in the lead as far as next-gen consoles are concerned, it means that Microsoft, unlike Nintendo, is not out of the game.
