Suggests cross between a Bold and Javelin

It seems that RIM continues to stir the pot with rumors upon rumors of new products that are in development. Earlier today, the rumors of the 9220 started and we began calling our shadow dwellers to see if they knew of anything that could contribute to the talk.

Much to our surprise they hinted that there is more truth to this than anyone is thinking there is. According our sources, some development work is on going to create a scaled-down BlackBerry Bold-like device with the size and feel of the BlackBerry Javelin that is going to be targeted first for the HSDPA set.

Our mole indicates that a movement inside wants to create a phone that offers the elegance and slick look of the Bold within the form factor of the Javelin. The Javelin is targeted as a replacement for the aging BlackBerry Curve and does not offer the executive high-end look and feel of the Bold.

Right now, from what we are being told the project is more conceptual than anything else. RIM makes a lot of prototypes and tries a lot of different concepts to come up with the right look and feel to improve their products and while it is possible that they are working on something that insiders are calling a 9220, it is a bit early to be sure that this is the direction that they are heading with their next offering.

With the Bold just launching, the KickStart next out the door, and the Javelin close behind we suspect if early development work is happening on a device that people are calling the 9220, it is still likely to be mid-next year before we will see it.
