Microsoft even closer to Linux

Microsoft is taking steps to give its Powershell more control over Linux machines by adopting OpenSSH.

For those who came in late. Windows PowerShell is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language, designed especially for system administration, while SSH is a network protocol

A Microsoft spokesman said that the company was showing its support for open source, and this is definitely going to be appreciated by programmers and supporters of free software.

PowerShell Team. Said that it had been a popular PowerShell request to use Secure Shell protocol and Shell session (aka SSH) to interoperate between Windows and Linux.
This will mean that Linux can connecting to and managing Windows via SSH and, vice versa.

SSH solutions are available from Linux vendors and communities but there were limitations on deploying them in Windows production environments. The posting said the combination of PowerShell and SSH can mean a robust, secure solution to automate and remotely manage Linux and Windows systems.

A move like this would have been unthinkable a few years ago and is an acknowledgment of the impact of open source and Linux on Microsoft since Satya Nadella took over.

It is starting to look that Windows and Linux system administrators are pretty much going to end up being the same thing.
