Don't expect queues, though

Hype is building
for the run up to the launch of Google's Android phone on T-Mobile USA's network.

T-Mobile USA is expected to announce the new phone, called the Dream, on September 23rd. And it is expected to start selling the device, which is made by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, sometime in October. Now the press is getting excited with the Wall Street Journal claiming that  600,000 to 700,000 phones will be shipped by the end of the year. This is much higher than the 300,000 to 500,000 phones analysts have predicted T-Mobile will sell.

Quite where the WSJ pulled these figures from is anyone's guess, but it seems that somewhere someone is pressing the buttons marked hype. Android, which is built on an open-source platform, promises to offer developers an easier way to develop new applications. Google hasn't officially announced an Android application store, but insiders say that one is on the way.

The success of this will determine if T-Mobile sells the amount it claims it will more than any press predictions in the run up to the launch.
