Asus shows its notebook N series

Four models for now

Asus has officially announced its latest N series of notebooks. The first four models, the N10, N20, N50 and N80 are all based on Intel hardware and featre the Hybrid Engine (SHE) which should automatically allocate power and preserve battery life by up to 35 percent.

The smallest one, called the N10 will sport a 10.2-inch screen and there will be models with either integrated GMA950 graphics or with a Geforce 9300M graphics card. This one will use Intel's N270 Atom processor in a combination with Intel's 945GSE Express chipset. Other noted specifications for this model include up to 2,048MB of DDR2 667 memory, 160, 250 or 320GB hard drive, 1.3M Web cam, external super multi optical drive and a total weight of 1.4kg with a 3-cell battery. The 12.1-inch N20 is much more serious, as it uses a selection of Intel's Core 2 Duo processors and will be offered with the  T9400, T5850, P8600 and P7350 in combination with Intel's GM45 Express chipset. It will also support up to 4,096MB of DDR2 800 memory, a 250GB or 320GB hard drive, an integrated DVD super multi or Blu-ray DVD combo optical drive, 1.3M Web cam and it should weigh around 1.85kg with a 3-cell battery.

The N50 and N80 have basically the same specs as the 12.1-inch N20 with some minor differences. Both the 14.1-inch N80 and the 15.4-inch N50 can be equipped with a 160, 200, 250 or 320GB hard drive, and are based on the same chipset and the same CPUs as the 12.1-inch N20. The 14.1-inch N80 will also have integrated HD Azalia audio while the 15.4-inch will have a 2.0M Web cam. The N80 weighs 2.69kg with a 6-cell battery and the larger N50 will weigh 2.95kg, also with a 6-cell battery.
