First flat 4K OLED

LG has revealed plans to launch a new range of TVs at next month's IFA trade show and among the line-up is what LG says is the first commercially-available flat 4K OLED sets.

The screens will come in 55-inch and 65-inch size options and support high dynamic range (HDR) technology.

They will be joined on the market by two curved OLED variants. One will have HDR and the other will not. Both are only 4.8mm thin.

HDR display technology means brighter and bolder colours as well as deeper blacks, but content with native support for the format is in short supply.

However, streaming giants Netflix and Amazon have both announced plans to broadcast in the standard in the not-too-distant future.

All of new TVs will be based around the webOS 2.0 operating system, and feature super-fast boot times and built-in Harman/Kardon speakers.
