Stylish aluminium full-tower case

It seems like it's impossible to keep a secret these days and Cooler Master's latest case, the ATCS 840 seems to have made an appearance on multiple websites with more details than you normally expect to see so early on.

This time it's worth it to get excited though, as the ATCS 840 is a huge step forward despite its retro styling. Cooler Master's slogan for it is "full tower classic" and we have a feeling that this case could become very popular with those that can afford it, as it's somewhat pricey.

The ATCS 840 has five 5.25-in drive bays, one external 3.5-in drive bay, although this can be used as a 5.25-in drive bay, as well, and six internal 3.5-in drive bays. The hard drives are mounted in plastic racks with anti-vibration pads and are then slotted into place for ease of installation and all the 5.25-in drives have push fastening for easy installation.

The case has a removable motherboard tray which a lot of users will love, as this is a fairly rare feature these days. However, Cooler Master has added a few tweaks of their own, like a hole at the rear of the motherboard tray that allows for easy removal of screw-on CPU coolers without having to remove the motherboard from the tray. As standard the ACTS 840 comes with a pair of top-mounted 230mm fans, a front-mounted 230mm fan and a rear-mounted 120mm fan, with the option to add two 120mm fans between the hard drives and the motherboard, and one to the bottom of the case.

It also comes with a weird external fan duct that is meant to draw hot air away from the graphics card, but we're not very keen on it. The PSU can either be mounted at the bottom or the top of the case, although you'd have to remove one of the top-mounted fans for it to fit. It's also possible to fit a dual or triple-fan watercooling radiator in the top of the case in lieu of the two fans. Dust filters also come pre-installed and there's even one at the bottom of the case for the PSU.

Design-wise, the ATCS 840 looks really sleek with smooth lines and curves and it will be available in black or silver. Finally, it has top mounted, concealable I/O ports, which consist of an eSATA, a FireWire and four USB 2.0 ports, as well as headphone and mic jacks.

It's rumored to become available in mid-October and the MSRP is set to be US$269 (€182/£145). which is a bit on the expensive side, but it looks like it'll be well worth it.

You can find a lot more pictures and details here and here.
