It is looking
like Republican hackers have worked out how to stuff up Barack Obama campaign's iPhone application.

The application was made available last week and it hit the headlines because it made Obama look cutting edge and in touch with the iPhone generation. It was supposed to take your contact list and arrange them in terms of marginal states.

You were then supposed to ring your friends in the marginals and tell them how wonderful Obama was. Unfortunately, it looks like someone is fiddling with the figures.

According to CNet on Thursday, only 12 calls had been made, and the top-ranked caller had made six of them. But 30 hours later, the top caller had made 9,648 calls. Since that would be five calls per minute, the person would have had to have made each call last 12 seconds per call on average.  Such a caller would have had to have had a lot of friends, too, which is unlikely given they only speak to them for 12 seconds. But this ‘person’ made nearly half of the 22,597 calls placed by 4:33 p.m. Friday.

It looks like Obama’s team worked out what happened because by late Friday the the top caller had made a more reasonable 48 calls and the total calls dropped to 13,076, the software reported.
