Samsung Galaxy S7 is waterproof after all

Also features wireless charging

A recent leak from Samsung’s Indonesia branch has just given reason to suggest that the company’s soon to be announced Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone will be completely waterproof and will include wireless charging.

The information leak comes from a Samsung Galaxy S7 advertisement posted to the Samsung Indonesia YouTube profile page, titled “Samsung Galaxy: Get Ready for #TheNextGalaxy.” The video was uploaded on Friday, February 12th and shows the device being placed on a wireless charger at the 3-second mark and undergoing a heavy outdoor rain test at the 31-second mark.

In this scene, Indonesian archer Dellie Threesyadinda shows off the waterproof video playback capabilities of her Samsung Galaxy S7 in a rainy forest before shooting an arrow straight through the bullseye of a target at least 100 yards away. We are unsure whether or not this early video leak was intentional, but with Mobile World Congress 2016 just around the corner next Monday, we expect Samsung to have confirmed this advertisement with a very similar one during its official press announcement.

As we wrote in late January, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge feature designs very similar to their S6 and S6 Edge predecessors, with the only major difference being a slight tweak in color scheme, perhaps to differentiate them from last year’s models. Both devices will be powered by Samsung’s eight-core Exynos 8 Octa 8890 SoC, featuring four high-performance 2.30GHz cores along with four smaller, more power-friendly 1.60GHz cores, and an integrated LTE Category 9 modem (downlink speeds up to 450Mbps).

Our staff will be attending Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week and will have more information to report as the official press announcement draws nearer.
