Apple support for Blu-ray coming soon
Could be at launch, even on the 14th
We know that Apple has been working on sorting things out to add Blu-ray support to the Mac product line. According to our sources, we can confirm that Blu-ray support is coming in the 10.5.6 version of the OS.
We are now suspecting that during the launch event slated for October 14th Apple will also announce Blu-ray drives as an option on the high-end MacBooks. While Blu-ray support has been available for the Mac platform as a 3rd party add-on and with the burning application Toast, which has added support for the burning of Blu-ray discs on the Mac for some time, this would be the first officially endorsed solution for Blu-ray on the Mac platform.
An update for iDVD is suspected in the near future, as well, which will add Blu-ray support, but we are not sure if this will be part of the slew of announcements that are expected for Tuesday. Another one of our sources is telling us that we will see the introduction of iWork ’09 and iLife ’09 as part of what we will see launched on Tuesday.
