AT&T Inc. has announced that it will begin sales in select Circuit City Stores and Wal-Mart Stores of its U-verse high-speed Internet and video service. AT&T indicated that 600 of the retail stores in California, Texas, Arkansas and Connecticut and several other states where U-verse is offered will be the launching vendors for the service.

AT&T wants to compete with its cable service provider competitors head-on by offering the high-speed Internet, video and phone services. U-verse will be available at Wal-Mart and Circuit City stores starting this month.

Customers will be able to sign up for the service and get first-hand information at the retail stores. AT&T said that it hopes to have more than 1 million U-verse television customers in service by the end of 2008, and to expand its network and offer the U-verse service to more than 30 million homes before 2011.

AT&T is struggling to regain the losses in its traditional market offerings as consumers have moved to mobile service and high-speed Internet services.
