Acer splits into two

Acer has divided its businesses into two group – one for IT hardware products and the other for cloud services, smart devices and e-businesses.

The company said that each group will have the independence to focus within its ecosystem and allow each to be better optimised to "enhance the allocation of operational resources, propel organic growth, and accelerate the overall company transformation."

The Core Business umbrella consists of: IT Products Business that encompasses notebooks, desktops and tablets, and related R&D.  IT also gets the digital display and server products businesses; and corporate business planning operations. The New Business devision will consist of the Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) and Smart Products Business that encompasses Acer's BYOC cloud services, smartphones and wearable devices; the value lab, and e-business.

Under the Core Business group, IT Products Business for notebooks, desktops and tablet PCs, and R&D will be led by President Jerry Kao. The Digital Display Business including monitors and projectors will be led by Victor Chien who has been promoted to president. Server Products Business will be led by Evis Lin who is the general manager. Corporate Business Planning and Operations will be led by president Tiffany Huang. 

Ben Wan, president will lead the New Business and eBusiness section. The Smart Products Business will be co-headed by presidents Maverick Shih and ST Liew and Value Lab for the vertical and horizontal integration of technology for new businesses will be led by CTO RC Chang, .

Andrew Hou, current general manager of the Stationary Computing Business Unit will lead Pan Asia Pacific operations. In his new capacity as president of Acer's Pan Asia Pacific region, Hou will oversee the operations of Asia Pacific countries including China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
