IBM plans Blades for SMEs
Pocket knifes
Big Blue is planning to build a range of Blade servers for SMEs.
According to TechWorld the servers will be designed for customers with fewer than 1,000 employees. The magazine quotes IBM BladeCenter product manager Scott Tease as saying that the smaller blade product will begin later in 2007.
IBM currently sells BladeCenter chassis capable of housing up to 14 servers to big companies. It thinks that SMEs will be interested in Blade Servers because they will not have to manage as much cabling.
IBM's chassis sells at $US2,700 but adding server blades and modules can see a fully configured system costing upwards of $US50,000.
