Opera sings about the joys of Chrome
Google has been good for us
Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner said that the launch of Google's Chrome had been good for Opera. He said the launch had the effect of reminding people that there were alternative browser choices, which has accelerated downloads of its desktop product.
Von Tetzchner said that the success of the iPhone had likewise reminded users of other phones that they might want to browse the Web when they are out and about, leading again to a spike in usage of Opera's mobile products.
Opera has a fairly patchy coverage. In some places, like Russia, it has 20 percent of the market, while in China it is known about less than the Tiananmen Square massacre. (Not funny, sub.ed.)
Opera is also doing much better in its mobile formats.
